I need focus on VPS

have read lots of pages and manual on downward VPS but still lack focus
maybe two questions will focus please

1) if left on does VPS take over from GPS when AC < 10m altitude?

2) when should VPS be turned off?

2. Never in any situation I can think of. You may want to turn off landing protection over water.

Can you elaboate in #2. What is Landing Protection and why turn it off over water?

has a rather nice description of Landing Protection
