Found Crashed P3 Professional

Since most of us in this hobby follow the rules I doubt that will be the case. Keep in mind there is someone out there that has probably been grieving at the loss of their P3 the whole time. Would love to see the look on their face when reunited.

Agree. This thing is expensive. I would be sick if I lost it, which is why I don't want the bad karma.

You mean, someone who flies it out of sight, doesn't know much about their app, and cant find a needle in a haystack.

Cool. I'll see if I can find one. This is the first drone I've ever seen either flying or not. I've never actually seen anyone around with one at any of the parks or anything.
If you are willing to post what city you are in there may be a member on here that would be willing to meet you and read the flight logs.

Unfortunately, it doesnt work like that. There is no "GPS ping" when you turn it on.

There may only be one video because many people format the card before every flight. He probably didnt start recording until he was up in the air.

I really hope you can make some effort to find the owner. I am sure he has been grieving this whole time at his loss. I know how I would feel.

I am doing all I know to do at this time. I have posted it in the community facebook, posted on here, tried extracting data from it, etc. Short of giving the serial number to DJI or finding someone with an RC as you suggested, I've done everything.

Why don't you just make fliers and put them around your neighborhood! I'm willing to make a bet the owner lives pretty close. Be sure to make sure they bring the controller when they pick it up and that the controller pairs to the drone before you give the drone back to be sure they aren't stealing it!

Good advice. I'll do that after I visit a hobby shop tomorrow to try and see if someone can sync it and pull flight data. I am thinking this thing was brand new. The battery still has the sticker on the front that tells how to turn it on. It also is very clean. And there was only one video on it, but the owner could have exported after each flight. The lack of wear and the fact that the manufacturer stickers are still on some components leads me to believe this may have been a rookie at flying.

Well, I will exhaust all avenues before deciding anything. Me keeping it will out of necessity rather than decision. I suspect I'll find the owner after getting access to the flight logs. Or with the help of DJI.

There are people who would probably have lifted that beer to THEIR new drone right off the bat so you have my respect for your efforts.
You've already put forth a good effort. Can't say I'd really expect you to go out putting flyers up tho. Nice thought but....

I also believe in Karma and you are due some return good karma.
I think you'd be an asset to the hobby.

That said, folks that neglect the basics like putting their name on their birds before they fly are a LOT less likely to see them again imo.

No has asked but does it have an FAA registration number on it anywhere? Also look in the battery compartment?

Unfortunately there are no unique marks or writing on the quad. I looked in the battery bay and all over the body.

I was really hoping the owner might post on here. The first thing I do when I get a new hobby is join a community to share it with others and this is a good site with lots of resources. I just ran the board for lost tags but nothing in the last week.

I'm going to try to find a RC later today and try to find the person that way. I'll also call DJI and see if they registered it. I have got to believe they took the second the register their expensive new drone.

If it's been sat in the woods for a week I'd imagine the owner has given up now. It sounds like a flyaway to me. It's an expensive repair bill and the RC isn't going to be cheap either but maybe cheaper than buying a new one.

Alot of realtor companies use these for aerial shots of properties. Have you called any of the local offices?

Might be worth a try, or if like me you hate realtors just keep it xD

Yeah the benefit of keeping it isn't great. I researched the parts to see how mad I would if I broke it after crashing it and the gimbal with camera is like $500. That almost half the cost of a new one.

Furthermore, if I kept it id have to drop the $500 in a new gimbal and another $500 on an RC. That is the cost of a new one.

I'll just exhaust a few more avenues. But I'm not going to put myself out too much. I have a lot going on and I don't have time to sit and call this place or that place or print flyers etc.

If I were a concerned owner is definitely post here or I would have marked up the thing with contact info.

Perhaps someone will try knocking on doors in the neighborhood. If the owner were around here I would think they definitely might try that. Unless they were doing something they shouldn't have with it.

Lol, I wish I would have never went back there and found this thing. I left well enough alone for a week but could not stand the green blinking in my backyard anymore!

What's even funnier is that there is a thread on this site about a guy whose P3 went missing for 6 months and some guy found it in the woods because he saw the **** green blinking light! It stayed blinking for 6 months! Luckily for that owner he had written his contact info on the quad.

Well if you can't locate the owner then stick it on eBay as spares or repair and get yourself some more beers and cigars as a treat :)

This is supposed to be one of the main reasons for the FAA registration, to locate a lost drone.
Look really good, up inside the battery compartment. Mine is stuck to the back wall of the battery bay.
It's possible the owner didn't register with the FAA, in which case he was flying illegally, which may explain why you haven't heard anything.
Also, someone mentioned Realtors using drones to photograph houses.
They can't do this unless they have a licensed pilot operating the aircraft. It's absolutely insane, but it's also the reason I'm not currently running an aerial video business. lol

Ill look again but I looked everywhere on this thing for any tags at all. Other than standard serial numbers and what not there nothing there. I didn't see anything in the battery bay. Calling DJI today to see if they can locate the registered owner. Assuming he registered. Nothing so far has indication this guy knew what he was doing preflight. The battery still has the clear plastic instructions from the manufacture on it that would normally be used be removed after using the first time and looks like it wasn't used much at all.

You guys think this owner got it and just could hold his water long enough to take the precautions necessary preflight? Like registering it?

Still no responses to our ads on social media and nobody has been around the neighborhood asking/looking.

Perhaps the owner knew the thing was damaged when it flew off and wrote it off? I live in a very wealthy area of metro Atlanta. For all I know this guy has already replaced it.

Wow, what a bummer. Sounds like you might have a new toy. Personally, I find it hard to believe that it's not repairable for less than the cost of replacing all the parts.
I applaud all the effort you've gone to to try to locate the owner, but it sounds like he (or she) didn't follow the law or even basic rules of common sense when prepping the aircraft for flight, so it's really not surprising it got away.
Wanna ship it to me for a reasonable fee? I'll use what I can on my P3A and scrap the rest. :)
At least it'll get a partial new life and not be totally trashed, and you'll get some compensation for your work in trying to be the good guy.

The realtors just do it and ask for forgiveness, rather than permission. Happens a lot. Honestly, not many know of the registration. The general public doesn't know much about it where I live. I have RC friends that don't fly multi rotors that don't even know they have to register because of their park flyers. Here is a realtor who just pleads ignorance, and didn't know about the "rules". He's an acquaintance. They have no 333 exemption, and don't really care. Who is policing it, especially in a remote area of the NY Adirondacks?

He's been through a few Phantoms learning the ropes, but $1000 is nothing when selling million dollar properties. At 3.5% comission, he's bought P3's like socks.
