DJIP3-4K range limited to about 50 meter????

Today I made my first flight with the DJI Phantom 3-4K.
I found out that you lose video after a distance of about 40 meter and control after about 100 meter. Strange thing is the wifi signal stays solid for at least 500 meter at -40 db. I flew in the country without any obvious disturbances.
Q:
Did I bye a monday morning drone or could I be doing something wrong?
BTW the return home works fine when he loses connection.

If you're flying it at LOS and only getting 100m, then I would be contacting DJI, as even in CE environment you should be getting closer to 500m. I get 600-800m at an altitude of about 100m
