Did you upgrade firmware right away?

just got the P4P moments ago, and I see a new firmware is available, do I have to update? Is it generally safe to do a short flight and see how it handles first?

Mine arrives tomorrow and a firmware upgrade is the first thing I'm going to do. With the aircraft being so new, it would be a good idea to install the firmware update.

Mine arrived today. I upgraded the firmware on the P4P and the controller. I did a compass calibration (obviously), but did not calibrate the Gimbal, or IMU. Only a few very brief test flights to make sure things were behaving and to get used to the Obstacle avoidance. It was very stable with no issues whatsoever.
