How often should the battery contacts be cleaned?

I recommend limiting sprays. I recommend slightly burnishing the male exposed contacts with an eraser. A typewriter eraser is a very handy tool. (Google it) Then, I use a q-tip to apply a minimal amount of contact cleaner to the contacts. DeOxit 5 is a great cleaner that has a quality of being able to transfer from one surface to another. Cleaning the males is enough as the contact cleaner will transfer to the female surfaces.

I recommend cleaning the terminals fairly frequently. As long as you use minimal burnishing so as to not wear away the gold plating and minimal cleaner to reduce any buildup. Cleaners attract dust so a clean dry contact with a minimum cleaner agent is best. Higher humidity climates or flying around water usually require greater attention to the contacts.
