Newbie here! Just wondering what folks have used for a range extender for my DJI phantom four Pro? Not sure why my range is so low, I live in Florida where it’s flat and have a very short range before it tells me out of range territory if there are no obstacles other than trees, should it go the 4.2 miles that they boast on their website? I live in Panama City Beach Florida and have pretty good line of site except for a couple of trees sometimes. Is it possible that there’s so much signal around me that it’s interfering with my drone? Anyways, if someone has any information on extending the range I would mostly appreciate it!
Thank you,
Ron

What kind of range are you getting now? And what's your target?

FYI, flying beyond visual line of sight (BVLOS) isn't legal in the US without FAA approval. It depends on your eyesight, of course, but under ideal conditions, most people can't see a drone clearly once it's more than about half a mile away.

There is a lot involved besides transmitter power. Most important thing may be to learn how to aim your transmitter. I think the record for both a P3 and P4 is sixteen miles out and sixteen miles back. Something like that. Another guy flew a P3 20 miles out and landed it safely, IIRC. Both these flights were done in Florida.

There are hundreds of threads on getting good range on this site which were posted 7-10 years ago. Really good info in there if you're willing to search. Not much being said these days because of legal issues.

See msinger's post above.

Good luck

Maybe .. where are you flying?
Urban areas are alive with interference sources.
Your P4 pro should get similar range to what's advertised if you fly somewhere away from that interference.
Trees between your controller and the drone will have a negative effect .. the more trees, the more effect.
Out over the sea is ideal.

The drone doesn't really need a range extender,
But the simple reflector type is simple, inexpensive and effective.
