Because the bag has to be so much bigger and more expensive - too big for carry on luggage..
And it takes a couple of seconds to flick props on and off.
I get you for long travels. But my nature of use for the phantom is that i take it short distances at a time and for short flights. (sorry for my english)
I leave the props on and take my Microraptor Backpack as a carry on. The first time I flew with it, I was nervous it was going to be taken away from me at the gate (because it is a large pack), so I took the props off. Since then, I've left them on for 8 different trips with no damage to the props and not even a side glance from a crew member.
