Phantom 2-style props on phantom 3

Hi everyone,
I recently had my worst crash yet (will start a thread on it soon) and among other things I'm going to need new propellers. The person i bought the drone from was using phantom 2-style props with metal hubs. I was about to go on aliexpress and buy the exact same props but I read that since the phantom 3 uses active braking, it's incompatible with phantom 2 props. I would buy OEM props but I cannot find them very easily and when I can, they cost 25 times as much as the aliexpress ones. Additionally I've never had a problem with the props the previous owner gave me and I don't really see how the plastic-hubbed props would have a more firm grip after being screwed on a couple of times. So my main question is: could I buy the metal-hubed props and use a bit of ptfe tape (or other material) to increase the friction between them and the motors?

Thanks in advance

Welcome to the forum!
The P3* is different than the P2*

I had a P2V+

This site is @msinger

He has a LOT of information there. :) 👍👌

This topic has been discussed before, but it was a long time ago. You can search if you want.

The P3 props are superior, both in the hubs and in the pitch of the blade. So ideally, you would go with P3 props.

P2 props can be used as well in a pinch. But snug them up firmly.

As I recall, when the P2V+ V3 was released, those props are actually the same as the P3 props which came out a few months later with the P3. They are composite hubs.

You might ask yourself why DJI switched from metal to composite on the P2? I believe it was to eliminate the spin-off problem which was prevalent ten years ago. Part of the reason for the spin offs is we were taught by DJI that we didn't have to snug up the props on the P2! That was an error.

And part of the reason is the composite hubs simply stick better than metal.

If you must use the older style metal hub P2 props, just be sure to snug them up with a prop / motor wrench. They should be fine if you snug them up nice and firm. But consider them temporary.

Meanwhile, look for proper P3 props.

Good luck

This what is my memory, the P2V+ had metal hubs, I probably can find some. I recall one time I was the Oregon coast. By the time we walked up the sand hill.
One of the props was gone, found it, my wife asked me are you going to tight it? It will itself as soon I take off, many fligts later at that same spot.

@hmour, just looked you only made one post.

If you still need some help, reply.

Otherwise, I won't post anything else here.

Thank you for the information. I ordered some propellers that appear to have plastic hubs in addition to the metal hubbed ones. I've always wondered how it's possible for plastic hubbed props to be harder to unscrew after being used a couple of times. In any case, if the drone isn't permanently damaged, I should be good to go as soon as the props arrive..

Side note: sorry for not replying earlier, I was away from home.

I have been here a while. :)
So many times a new member makes 1 post.

They post good info and the OP disappears.
Pay here isn't very good.

The OP coming back with intel, that is how we get paid. 👍

But now you are required to help many others, to get to minimum pay.:)👌

There are 2 types of P2 prop, the original 9443 model and the 9450 (from memory) the 9450 are the same as the P3 props and can be used, the 9443 are the original and shouldnt be used with the P3, you can find the model number on the leading edge of the prop, its very tiny so you may need a magnifying glass
