Can i upgrade the firmware of a friends phantom plus on my assistant software, or will it consider his phantom as mine in the future when he gets his computer fixed and does the next firmware update?

The assistant software doesn’t care whose phantom is connected. I will read current firmware/config and allow you to modify it. It doesn't 'remember' your bird.
