Hello all,
I have recently encountered glitchy footage on my phantom 4 pro. Has ran great for years. All firmware is latest except for the remote (no way to download the new one on DJI's website, remote doesn't work/connect with DJI assistant). I have an entire shoot with this issue. On site I figured it was just an issue with the remote and interference. However, when I got home I saw that its in the footage on the SD card, which means there's an issue with the camera or software/firmware. SD works on numerous other cameras so it is not that. Tried resetting camera settings, all calibrations.

Anyone have a similar experience with this? Thank you in advance. DJI support does not help, they still think I have the P4P+, when I just have the regular P4P.

Welcome to the forum.

I have a P4 actually, on this forum a member sent it to me no charge, remote, two batterers the multi charger, etc.
Yes really!
Still scared to fly it. :)

Anyways, you will get a lot help here!!

At the moment, if you haven't been here.

@msinger
Has spent I lot of time on his help website.

@RodPad I appreciate that! Thank you for the link. Will dive in there to continue trial and error. Hoping a pilot has had this exact issue to help point me in the right direction.

I was in a hurry when I made that post. Just now I watched the video.
I know I have seen this on a P3A. I'm sure it is not related to software, etc.
Just don't remember what yet.

Any history on this P4P?

The last time it worked fine?

Anything you can think of between then and now?

Rod ..

@RodPad It has been slowly getting worse and worse as the days go on. Weak image transmission and glitchy preview. But only in video mode. Oddly enough, when I switch it to 1080P in 120 FPS its working perfectly. Any other video setting gets the glitches. @ArnoldLeVine No sir I have the Sandisk Extreme fast micro sds. Also tried a different SD card, no dice. Thank you both for the help. Going on a test today will follow up.

How about this one, do you see the problem in live view?

I still got this stuck in my head, I think it is mechanical.

Vibrations from the P4 props, frame cracks, the plastic shocks, etc.
Anything from the props to the camera.

Washing machine in our house, maybe 40' away from the bedroom. sometimes on my dresser which is cluttered. It will make noise in the spin cycle.

This a stick built house, owner build it in late 70's.

Yes, that looks pretty bad. This can have a number of causes. A sticky gimbal can cause this. Make sure you have removed the plastic packing that came with the drone when it was new. It looks like it belongs, but it is actually intended to prevent damage to the gimbal when the unit is being jostled around.

There are some things, such as re-calibrating the gimbal, which you must try. If you do that, and it either doesn't solve the problem - or the effort fails completely, then the gimbal assembly may need repair. It could also be a problem with the electronic shutter that is used on DJI drones for the consumer market (under $3K). This also would need to be repaired.

I don't know if DJI will still repair P4P. But, if they do, and the drone is otherwise in good shape, in my opinion it is worth it to pay the $300+ bucks to get it done. In my case, they switched out the whole drone and controller for what I think is a brand new one.

Good luck with this! It's a very frustrating problem.

@Heron
When said plastic packing, WHAT.
Now I remember that was an issue in the past. 👌
I also got this from you, what is the value and time frame!

@Droneted
I couple of us know, your the guy :)

@FREYVISUALARTS
The last two days. :rolleyes:
Just the other stuff that pops up at home, etc.

@Heron Interesting. Flew again today, 1080P at 120 fps is working better than 4K. However, 1080p at any other frame rate gets the glitches. It’s the weirdest thing. Could this be a ribbon cable issue? Appreciate all the responses. Tempted to buy a Phantom 4 Pro V2 gimbal/camera and throw it on to see what happens.

Yes interesting!

I am still focused on the live view, Is it the same that gets reordered on the SD card?

Ribbon cable, maybe, it effecting the gimbals movement?

I have never done a gimbal calibration on a P4.
Many on a P3A

Did you do that?

Rod ..

Yes it’s recorded onto the SD card. Not just live view. I’ve done everything possible, with all calibrations, re downloaded firmware for drone. Did everything. I think only thing left would be to start taking it apart, check things out and put it back together maybe it will clear. Will report back.

Just seen this post.

Not a clue, but there it is.

@Harleydude

Any thoughts?

Your posts seem to be always on weekends.

Just did some more testing and the glitches completely go away when I am in photo mode. Interesting.
Thanks for the interesting report on your various tests. The fact that it goes away in Photo Mode is, I do not believe - relevant. I believe this to be entirely a video problem, not a still camera problem, which captures just an instance in time. It is interesting that you are seeing less effect at 120-frames 1080 mode. But, this could be because the video is not as sharp, and the problem is not as visible. If you look through other posts on this kind of problem, some people believe that adding a darker neutral density filter reduces the problem. But, it really just blurs it, and that may be sufficient to get usable video.

This can also be caused by excessive vibration of the P4P, due to propellors that are in bad shape. Bad props will certainly introduce more vibration, which be severe enough to cause the jitter that appears in your video - also sometimes called, the "jello effect."

If you have calibrated the gimbal successfully, and the props are in good shape, to me that suggests that the problem is there to stay, and it may get worse.

Except that I have suffered the same problem, I am certainly no expert. If you search under Jello Effect, you will find more entries.

Good Luck!

@Heron,
I completely agree, with you post👍

also "Jello effect" term 👍

@FREYVISUALARTS,
My turn,
It sounded like, live view and the recording both had the glitches. If the photos are good, did the live video still show the glitches?

I also thought, share more current videos.

Rod ..

@Heron I am familiar with the jello effect, this is more of a complete glitch in the footage. It also happens when the drone is on the ground in video mode, so that cancels out the props/vibration theory. @RodPad Yes, live video shows glitches, and it's on the SD card. Photo mode does not show glitches. I'll share some more footage later on today. Thanks all.
