With the millions of drones sold by DJI, if even 1 percent was defective, we would see 10,000 failed units per 1,000,000. I have not seen anywhere near that number of people complaining about firmware issues or other issues.
You must understand, people that have problems, well they are going to write about them on line. People that are just having a good time, not so much. I see this in all industries, lots of complaints, but when you count the numbers, not that bad.
This is not to say that people are not having problems, they are! But not everyone is having problems, that is also true. Now what percentage of people are having problems? We have absolutely no clue. But it does seem like some people have more issues than others and that too is an unknown.
Let' just accept that you cannot fix any software or firmware without updates. Is that not true? So, if you never update, you don't get bug fixes or improvements either, but that is your choice. I have not had a problem with my
P4P, it is completely up to date.
It is important that we help those who are affected with problems, but it is irresponsible to assume that all updates are evil and will brink your drone. DJI is not in the business to kill drones, they make them. Will there be problems, of course, there are with all products. Hell, a BMW is a nice expensive car, but they break, have recalls, updates and require the owners to bring them in when necessary.
No, you don't have to update, I guess, I have not tried to completely refuse to do so. BUT, are you sure that is the best thing to do. I am not completely convinced that updates, not applied in sequence or time, could cause future issues with updates. This has happened to programs many times.
So, maybe we should not recommend people not update, let them decide. If you have had issues, then of course you should tell about them. But, I think we are missing the point of updates. This business of Geo Fencing has clouded the whole scene. According to things I read from DJI, there will be a new Go 4 program update, it will take out Tinker and Cut Off Access, for another sub program that has been used by 3rd party, to gather information on apps installed on phones and tablets. This will include a Stealth mode, where you can cut all communication, no data will stream anywhere but to you. This should help to calm this down, then maybe people can begin to think about something besides someone watching what they are doing. Frankly, I could care less if someone watches, I have nothing to hide.
