What is the purpose of the string that goes around the Prop Guards?

What is the purpose of the string that comes with propellor guards pls?

It's supposed to prevent objects from entering in between the prop guards. I personally wouldn't use it since the string will most likely wrap around the props if it becomes untied and/or breaks.
