what firmware

Are you try to install the latest firmware? If so, follow these steps.

See my instructions above. They cover that scenario.

Welcome to the forum @JRH and congrats on the new Phantom.

If you are interested, click here for several tips that I often share with new P3P/P3A owners.

Cheers!

Mine says my fw for battery needs updating how do I know what I have and what I need

You need to install the same firmware version that's installed on your Phantom. If needed, you can find detailed instructions here.

My info
App 3.1.3
Version 1.5.30+
Remote 1.8.0
Status says I need to update battery FW
sorry for all this just want to do it correctly

AC is far behind on firmware. Latest is 1.10.9 released late November. 1.09.6 (not 100% on last digit) was last June.
The 1.9 updated battery firmware as well as AC itself.
You might need to install 1.6 before jumping to 1.9 or 1.10.

The + on the AC firmware means a component has later code than the base firmware package. Usually that's the battery.

I see 1.9 and 1.10 but no 1 .6
Is the latest working for every one

I have no issues but others found signal problems. I might not have noticed as I only really started flying it Christmas and didn't go really far until the past month or two.

Didn't want to create a new thread for the same subject but just got a used P3A a couple of weeks ago. Only been out a few times with it but doesn't seem to have any issues as far as I can tell. Seem to be behind a few firmware versions but going through some of the threads, some people are having trouble with the latest firmware.
Is there any need to upgrade if things are working correctly? I looked on the DJI site and it looks like my upgrade options are 1.8.80, 1.9.60, 1.10.90.

Currently
App 3.1.3
Version 1.5.30+
RC 1.6.0

Just put it on your desktop then drag to SD card. I never have to unzip using Windows..
