Ok so when I go into settings I choose 1080p but once I have finished recording in says 720 why is this?

Perhaps you are looking at your saved low res downlink (FPV) video which can never be higher than 720.
Are you looking at that or are you looking at the high quality video on your SD card which can go higher than 720?

Yes that could be it, looking at it on the iPhone. So do I have to take the sd card out and plug it into the laptop to view it in hd?
