Video: Fitted my Phantom v1 into a Phantom 2 shell (easy!)

Re: Video: Fitted my Phantom v1 into a Phantom 2 shell (easy

@PJA: very nice!! I make no guarantees mine will look anywhere near as neat.

Looks like my battery will be here Monday. I may test-fit everything except the upgrade board and NAZA while I wait, I just don't want to put those in till I decide how/if I want to modify the battery bay.

Re: Video: Fitted my Phantom v1 into a Phantom 2 shell (easy

Some info for my p1.5 bretheren. I just added 2.4 data ground station and did my first autonomous flight - it was a blast. But I also discovered that now since I can program way points with my Ipad mini, I can also use the assistant software (available for Ipad) in the field for adjustments, IMU calibration etc... no more PC laptop (which I despised) I'll save it for software updates for all the DJI add ons. Just thought I'd pass this added benefit on if you were considering the ground station.

Thanks for the feedback, that's exactly what I'm resigned to do doing now...getting an iPad mini for both GS and settings adjustment. I assume you connected the BTU to the NAZA directly to use the assistant software, or did that work when it was connected to the GS Rx?

It worked straight away BTU is connected to GS Tx (Rx is mounted on rig)

Oh, that's awesome, I didn't realize you could do it that way.

Also, just to prove I'm making some progress on this project (just waiting for the batt to arrive tomorrow or Tue):

Nice! You have way more patience than I do, I had mine flying with a pair of 2200 lipos with cables hanging loose in snow just to make sure I had it right. lol

Re: Btu and Ipad - It made making IMU cal & gain adjustments a snap. Simple as land it, open assistant, make change, write, then fire her up again.

Re: Video: Fitted my Phantom v1 into a Phantom 2 shell (easy

OK... So I did the Flytrex in the Battery Compartment also... But I did it the same way GetaGrip did...

I do like your version too, OI...

Here are some of my pics:

I carved too much, but fixed it with two sided tape and hot glue...

The Micro SD Card is flush in there... takes a fingernail to un-click it...

I also had to redo my power cables to accommodate the fit... I had originally soldered them together as per Sir Dewey's way...

These are the tools I used for the Flytrex Fit:

Re: Video: Fitted my Phantom v1 into a Phantom 2 shell (easy

@PJA: Very nice job on the flytrex install. A large part of the reason I did it differently than that is because I know I would never be able to pull it off as neat and well-aligned as you did.

I think I've done everything else I can before test-fitting the battery (when it arrives) and final install on the upgrade board:

Very nice pics on the progress of your P 1.5, OI... I'm waiting for my Tiger Motors. They should arrive by mid week. Is there any hint on how to switch around those ALL GRAY wires and get the right combo for each motor? I actually wrote down a diagram for each ESC where each color wire was with the old motors. Are you able to tell me from left to right what each corresponding gray wire is that corresponded to the color of the Phantom motors? No biggie if you can't...

I'm expecting an iOSD mini by Wednesday also...

I was reading up about your FrSKY X8R receiver... Nice 16 channel unit. Are you going with the PCB antennas, or the standard ones?
What transmitter are you pairing it with?

PS: Whatever happened to Sir Dewey???

Good question, if he went and got a life then we're in trouble.

For the X8R on my Phantom, I have the model with the PCB antennae but it's starting to look like I'll need to replace them with some longer standard leads...the PCB version only has 150mm leads on it and I'm having trouble getting them situated properly after feeding them outside the shell. Fortunately it's a simple snap-on connection and the longer leads are cheap. I'm using the PCB ones already on my 550 though and they work great so far.

I can explain how I have my T-motors wired up. If you look at the side of the motor that has the wires exiting the bottom (as opposed to looking down on it from above), I'll refer to them as wires 1, 2, 3 going from left to right.

Motors #1 & #3 (spin CCW):
Wire 1 = Black
Wire 2 = Red
Wire 3 = Yellow

Motors #2 & #4 (spin CW)
Wire 1 = Red
Wire 2 = Yellow
Wire 3 = Black

EDIT: to be clear, this is the angle to be looking at the motor when numbering the wires 1-3 from L-R as they leave the housing:

Good question, if he went and got a life then we're in trouble.

 Don't be daft O.I i'm way away from that yet!!

Been mentally busy with that 'work' stuff though. Havn't flown in about a month!! Madness. Fortunatley the website that was causing the pressure is now finished and live so i have some breathing space coming up again(I hope).

Great to see the progress you guys are making here. The frysky mods are excellent! Great use of the space.

I'm debating what to do next. The 1.5 is flying really good on the P2 batt and getting any of the ones you buys have found in the UK puts the price up to almost the same as a P2 batt anyway so i may just get another one.

All tht said i've not had the time play with the voltage limits and flight times so maybe that first... And some better props :D

Big is i'm a car nut too and my Impreza STi is going in for some work soon to make it faster than it ever needs to be! Splitting the (non existant) hobby money up is not easy!

Thanks for the wiring sequence, OI ... My motors will arrive on Wednesday... I put back together my P2 after dissecting it for the Flytrex Core fit... It's just about ready to go...

One last thing... Can you suggest any YouTube or Vimeo Videos showing how to install the iOSD mini on the upgrade board... All I'm finding are Videos fitting the iOSD in a Phantom 2 with a Canbus Port... Am I going to have to create one for the install? Hope it's not that complicated...

Again, Thanks for your help, as always, OI...

PS: Dewey's Back! Welcome back, Mr. D! :D

PJA,
I don't know about any videos but I did take photos of my install. It's not complicated but does require some fine tip soldering. If I can do it, there are monkeys that can be trained to do it..

First you scrape off the silicone from the brown and red wires, ground and regulated voltage(RV) respectively. The 2 other drawn circles are can-bus high and low. Give them a little scrape to remove the clear coating and make ready for solder.

Then solder on the wires....I used the factory iOSD cable but pulled out the 4 wire cable from inside the bulky cable.
I soldered the yellow wire to can-bus low, just made it easier because yellow and low both have the letter "L" in them.
Orange went to can-bus high, red for power, brown for ground.

Turns out that DJI soldered them to the iOSD this way as well....Yellow(can-bus low) Orange(can-bus high) Red(regulated voltage) Brown (ground). I guess I just wanted the soldering practice...

Trick question? :D

Here's the original sarawuth mod for adding a canbus port directly to the board, or for doing it by soldering the iOSD mini directly: http://www.sarawuth.com/2014/01/dji-pha ... -bus-port/

Here's Dewey's interpretation of them: viewtopic.php?f=4&t=7031&p=55614

Re: Video: Fitted my Phantom v1 into a Phantom 2 shell (easy

Beat me to it by a few secconds there O.I.

I chose to make a canbus port but many have hard wired the iOSD like the pics gen3benz posted and then use the port on there for other devices.

The soldering to the board is the same either way. Small tip, high(ish) heat is the key (though I am not the greatest of solderers!).

Re: Video: Fitted my Phantom v1 into a Phantom 2 shell (easy

My ThunderPower battery arrived today, and I am indeed going to need to do some trimming on the rails and ribs in the battery tray.

I'm also hoping gen3benz or ElGuano or somebody will know the pinouts on the TP balance connector so I can re-pin it in to a JST-XH plug...?

I just looked it up and it's linear just like a standard 3s jst. The positive or ground should be marked. http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/stor ... _bag_.html

Oh, and for about 5 minutes this board said I was permanently banned??? Last I'm aware I didn't go off on some spectacularly racist rant, not sure what that was about...

Thanks, I wasn't sure which lead on the TP tap was the right one, but I should have thought to just look at an adaptor

No idea what happened w/the ban.

Thanks for the detailed pics, gen3benz... I appreciate it...

Being the 'chimp' that I am, I started the process tonight by scraping the contacts clean... I expect my iOSD mini to arrive tomorrow. Then I will draw up a plan of attack to see how I want to deal with the cable; either shorten the included one (so my iOSD can remain under the hood) or create a lighter version as shown in the Sarawuth link... I'm sure this project won't make a complete monkey out of me... :o

PS: Thank you OI Photog and Mr. D for your input and help with this project also...

I'll post my progress report as I go along...

Re: Video: Fitted my Phantom v1 into a Phantom 2 shell (easy

what create ways have you guys found to mount the LED?

I read that someone just installed everything 'backwards'? anything to be concerned about using this method? It'd save from having to extend the LED cable, which would be nice.
