A note on PB charging that I've found - If I charge battery at 3amps or more it charges quick but shuts off early - the 2 times I tried at 3amps & 4amps it tripped the auto shut off and tested on voltmeter 12.4 and 12.2 respectedly. When I charge at 2 amps it tests 12.64 or higher (had one 12.79)

Re: 21 mins - that went to 1 solid bar on batt, very easy flying and with battery warnings off. I noticed that while watching OSD, voltage at the 2nd bar and into 3rd was a "voltage ledge" it stayed there awhile. I can't explain why but I do know the OSD does have a delay. I'll do a couple flights today (before massive snowstorm blows through) just to verify. I'll try w/warning set and without to see if there's a difference - I wouldn't think so but then again this is DJI...

Very interesting regards the PB charging MC. Mine was charged at 4amps and it did 'fully' charge in 56mins which is faster than the DJI charger did last time (made me suspect all was not as it should be). iOSD confirmed it was only 12.18v on start up.... that is a significant amount of juice lost!

Just got back from a second flight (using the 12.2 volt charged batt). It managed about 12 mins before being fairly close to 2nd level auto land (10.7v on iOSD with autoland set at 10.6v). I should note that when i did land it went back had 2 bars again and the LED was flashing greens so clearly its the 'loaded' value that needs a tweak.

I am charging mine up again right now in PB @ 2amps so will see what it does.

I'm in charge mode also and am taking advantage of some mild weather before monster snowstorm tonight.

Try turning off battery warnings and fly by OSD and "bars" - On my 21 min flight I landed and took off 2 twice during that run never turning off. Just landed (20 secs) to check lights and back up. I'll try that today and have video rolling.

flight #1 w/battery warning levels on - Temp 9deg F, winds 5-10mph - battery warning 1 = 10.55, battery warning 2 = 10.4

Flight time 9:25.5 Battery Start 12.6 (voltmeter & IOSD) batt end - 2 bars (P2 batt) tripped 2nd level warn but batt was at 11.47 at rest after flight - I will post video when done process. (forgot DVR but will do on test w/o battery warnings on)

Interesting.... sounds about right compared to mine (even though yours is a fatty!! :lol: )

Just finished my 2amp PB charge.... 118 mins and 3998 mah back in so not a lot of room to play with there. Voltometer registers 12.3v (go figure). I noticed a 12v PB charge has a final voltage of 14.7v.... that worries me. I watched VERY carefully knowing at 120mins the auto cut off would occur. The good news was I got 'Connection Break' which is the P2 batt turning itself off. Weird cause i didn't get that last time.

I'll get one more flight in today to drain that down and then charge it back up with the DJI charger next time. I really want to know what my voltometer rates it at after a full charge. If it is 12.6 then I at least know it is best to just use the stock charger.

So yes people be warned PB charging does work but it isn't clear how accurate it is on the smart battery and if that smart battery doesn't auto turn off it will take it to 14.7v (before which your house, curtains and cat will most likely be on fire :mrgreen: )

Yea I get "connection break" everytime at 12.6 )have seen it go higher but always settles at 12.6 Mines charging now for flight 2 and this time DVR is going with to show onscreen voltage movement. (I need 3 arms and an assistant to handle all the charging duties - Charge batts, charge monitors, charge GTU, thank God GoPro and rtx run off phantom battery)

If weather holds and my fingers don't fall off will try dual batts w/o warnings (I feel a crash coming on)

Well no crash to speak of, but flight cut short due Zenmuse module failure. Module no longer lights up, checked wiring all good but module DOA. But here's telemetry of flight and notice battery level fluctuation especially whn landing then taking off again

Weird failure of the Zenmuse there MC. You are running the GCU rather than the upgrade board right?

Yes Sir GCU & PMU - luckily went to my local shop (Hobby Warehouse) & they gave me a replacement - it turned out to be the actual gimbal. With my recent round of "hard landings" it appears soldering to board / ground came loose & shorted - which took out the gimbal. All's good now and we're talking 40 degree F and sunny tomorrow - so I plan on puuting some time on my batts.

Am still waiting on Hongy Kongy P2 connector and my local guy says he's got 6 or so on way - so am axniously awaiting for hopefully one of te last updates (for awhile)

I plan on another round of gain tests today (since we're getting 40+deg & sunny today) I'm pretty close w/ 140-140-160-140 -atti 100/100 but it's down to the fine tuning & confirming it's useable on both battery configurations. Flight wise it's pretty good but I'm after the holy grail of smooth.

On another note for those doing the conversion - my plans for locating XT60 plug on right side of battery bay (looking into bay) has changed as connector won't tuck into cavity when using P2 battery/connector. I'm considering relocating it to lower side of shell and a battery door is going to have to be re-thought.

Sir Dewey - have you tried dual batts yet? I'm finding on an assortment of different batts there is quite a bit of cable to tuck in. Last flight w/std batts I let cables hang out rear. Maybe instead of rear door a downward facing tail would be more approrpiate...

Yeah space for the wiring on dual batt is a pig. Especially the y-harness. I have just got my battery door prototype today and it will just about work but a little more space needed i think. Very quick preview here (much more to come this evening!):

Ok - So for the most part this post will go on a few forums so I don't have to redo it all. Sorry for repeating if you've seen it twice!

First of all I have finished the tweeks to the door and 2 versions are now available to purchase on my Shapeways shop: http://www.shapeways.com/shops/d3wey

The two versions online have an internal depth of 19.5mm (identical to the pictures you will see below). Modifications I have made are:

- Larger holes in the sides so you can pass 1 XT60 plugs through them should you need too (before it would fit one but the wires prevented a second being passed through).
- Both clips are wider. This means that even with just using the clips they will be very little (if any) side to side movement possible)
- Side guides. Small external circles that hug the Phantom shell to aid in keeping the door in place with no movement.

I got the Female Traxxas/Xt60 Connector today... Not Good!

Doesn't fit over the P2 Power Connector unless you do major surgery... I don't plan on doing that, so I'm going to shelve this idea...

It would have been nice because it could have saved us the extra cable expense...

Thanks PJA - :roll: I feel your pain there! I found out exactly the same thing today myself as my adapter arrived too!! Worst thing is that it doesn't even come close to fitting my Traxx plug either! A dremmel cutting disc to the edges would work but it'll be flimsey... not worth it IMO. :lol:

Fortunatley my IPC also arrived (for those not keeping up that is the DJI 'Internal Power Connector).

This is what I did:

Out of the box (for those that will be wanting details):

Above pic isn't as clear as I'd of liked. I used the wires that came soldered on it for my XT60 socket. I then soldered my Phantom Main Board power to the terminals. The positive (red) was at 30 degrees to leave just enough space to get the screw in. Then the ground wire (black) I soldered at near as **** it 90 degrees.... if you don't do that angle you'll find it really hard to fit in. Indeed the stock wire itself was banging slightly into the standoff without me even touching it so i adjusted it slightly.

Fitting wasn't as much of a trauma as is suspected. Just had to undoe the main board 4 screws and release M4(iirc) from the NAZA to ease tension. I then soldered like the above just outside the shell and the was plenty of space to slide it in under it. A fiddle but nothing hard at all.

Net result is that the XT60, when not needed, has loads of room above the IPC. I just tuck it back and the battery helps fold it into place without snagging as this pic shows (just):

Your results (10.4 loaded alarm, 11.47 resting voltage) suggests the battery may not be able to keep up with the demand from the motors. Maybe DJI is running a low-C lipo or even some li-ion chemistry to achieve its power to weight ratio? This is the type of heavy voltage sag you'd expect to see, especially with a heavily-loaded quad. Interesting...

Elguano - interesting point made there. I recall in the earlier days of Phantom 2 prototype photos the charger being used was a Li-On .... not sure that has any baring on this at all as a Li-On charger is pretty much what the P2 one is (delivering a constant voltage). Li-On tech in the smart board but charging a Li-Po batt? Sounds expensive enough to justify the costs thats for sure.

Ghost Recon door added to the set of battery doors guys. It was a custom build for Ronin on DJI Guys forum but available to all.

This version has mounting holes for the LED board from the Phantom 1. When mounted it will shine the LED through the eyes/mouth of the skull.

Very cool design. I oredered one of your plain design w/holes to the sides as I'm fitting an XT60 externally (right side)

On another front (and continual testing) one of my clients' personal pilots came over to check out Phantom as he's looking to purchase one for himself, and stated that Vision props looked to be "too vicious or agressive a cut" to perform properly on a heavily weighted quad. It was definetly smoother take off & landing. Of course I tried the "fast decel" and it was much easier to catch vs the prop wash of the vision props. I found I can also lower my gains a little more, as you'll notice in video the yaw was more of a sharp turn rather than a pan... the tests continue... (hopefully in better weather)
