It's not a good idea if you're in the US ;)
 
You're gonna need to be in the middle of nowhere (low noise) or use diy antenna boosters to get to 1000m. Near 500m up the p3 usually starts losing signal for some reason even if you are able to go 3000m at 20m high, the signal going up is weaker because its hard to maintain good polarity with the antennas...

What do you guys think of the shape of this one? Here he is flying quite high and adds the booster after he's lost signal - and gets control/video right back.

I wish this board moderated these discussions of high altitude flights.
It's not gonna do anything good for us all eventually.
