I felt it may be beneficial to start a post to get a good representation of feedback from current P4P+ owners regarding the upgrade experience and results, good or bad, of loading DJI's latest release of firmware (2018.03.08) for the P4P+.
Since DJI's history of releasing bug-free firmware updates over the last year or so has been especially poor and with many pilots having a myriad of issues with the operation and performance of their respective drones after upgrading beyond '509', I thought it would benefit the masses if this thread collected the latest firmware's operating results from users with P4P+ hardware. Many users have NOT upgraded beyond version '509' or have downgraded to '509' due to all of the revealed issues that occurred with the various P4P+ firmware releases since 'version '509'. This thread may help to restore some confidence in the latest release's integrity, based on user's feed back over the next month or so - to truly vet out the actual results the users have experienced after loading the updates in their respective P4P+ hardware ... both the AC and RC+. Please share your upgrade and operation thereafter experiences in this thread, so other P4P+ owners may potentially benefit from them.

How about the P4P+ users ??? ... this thread was primarily geared for the specific combination of software and hardware for the + RC.
(It apparently is less common than P4P users using an external display - either Android or Apple hardware).
Please indicate if you are using an "RC+" DJI controller.

What version did you update from?

I'm not sure. I just got the P4P+ in February and it 'auto-updated' when I first connected it. Full disclosure; I wasn't having any issues prior to this most recent update.

Sure thing.

As I said in the other thread, most of what I experienced seem to be minor and annoying 'quirks' of the DJI software/GO app on the controller, but nothing I would call problematic. No issues with the AC.

Any issues with losing connection with the Drone (even briefly), with RTH, setting home point, precision landing, landing in general, stability of the camera or gimbal, streaming video at 2.4 and 5GHz, flight command responses - especially at distances past 1 mile, etc. ???

Here's what I posted today in the other Firmware thread:

So...after multiple test flights today, I have additional post update observations. These issues I noted may or may not be update related, so as they say, "your mileage may vary..."

I fly the P4P+.

Right after I updated last weekend, I went outside and did a very quick test flight as wind conditions were a bit strong. Nearly a week later, it's still quite breezy. However, today was a fairly light day. The UAV Forecast app showed surface winds at 13 knots, with winds at 200' 15 knots, gusting to 22 knots. Accordingly, I still report some amount of drift in 'P' mode, and observed the AC working hard to hold GPS hover in the wind. In 'Atti' mode, the AC was all over the place when trying to hover, as would be expected for the conditions. This fits with the wind and not the AC being the issue with drift in 'P' mode hover.

I made five flights, all in 'P' mode. During the third flight, I took off in 'P' mode, then switched to 'Sport' and 'Atti' modes, but ended the flight in 'P' mode. Between each flight, I powered down both AC and RC. When I powered up the RC for the first flight, I received the warning box (FYI - all notes about warnings are paraphrased) "...firmware does not match between controller and aircraft," with an option to ignore or update. Being in a large wooded area and field, I chose 'Ignore.' This warning did not appear again until the fourth and fifth flights. I also received the warning box stating the 'No-Fly Zone Database' required an update, and the option to update or ignore on each flight. Again, I chose 'Ignore.' On the third flight, the small green box indicating 'Remote controller assisted take-off initiated' popped up on the screen and would not close. Also, the DJI lady never announced the establishment of the home-point for this flight, even after multiple take-offs and landings. This did not happen on the fourth or fifth flights, with the green take-off boxes and DJI lady behaving normally, again, through multiple take-offs and landings. I also did two successful RTH tests on the fourth flight. No RTH settings, or max altitude settings were changed by the update.

I shot several test videos and photos. During flight, I noticed the live feed from the camera had a bit of a stutter or jerky motion when turning (yaw control) the AC. However, during a playback of the videos in Quicktime, there is no stuttering or jerky motion whatsoever. The videos and gimbal movements are smooth. The photos look fine as well, shot in DNG. Of course, the videos and photos would require some post work if they were not 'tests,' but I did not note any camera issues.

Bottom line is, aside from what I believe to be issues caused by meteorological and environmental conditions (gusty winds) the AC performed well overall. After I recharge batteries, I'll see what I can figure out on the noted 'firmware discrepancy.'

That's what I have to report...:)

Thx ... excellent assessment ... I'll be interested in hearing about the status of any former firmware discrepancies noted.
Wouldn't it be nice if DJI finally got this one right for the PLUS controller and AC combination ... for a change ... working correctly with the "+" hardware? The whole idea of the PLUS was to not need an external piece of additional hardware to purchase and keep updated (OS updates) and have issues with bright sun, etc. and yet the firmware updates for the "+" version of DJI GO4 have not been as stable as they have been working on the iPad or Android Tablets. One would think DJI would have made the firmware loaded in their own controller hardware the most stable of all ;-).

Thank you -

Yes, it would be nice if DJI did get this one right - and all other future updates, as well! Let's hope this is a trend...

I've just rebooted the AC and controller 4 different times. No 'firmware does not match' messages or requests to update the 'No-Fly Zone database.' 4 version checks all in agreement with the latest updates. All seems to be good.

So far...

They need thorough software regression testing to ALWAYS be done BEFORE releasing new firmware to the masses - since the release of the '509' firmware (the last most stable version that didn't take away any functionality) and the rush to totally control the airspace, their code has been rather poor and full of bugs ... and it goes unsaid that they need experienced programmers working on this that often cost a bit more than the new-kids off the street who think they can write quality code ... one can hope !!!

Excellent report.

I should add, in the interest of full disclosure:

I did not test any of the flight modes...Tap Fly, Point of Interest, Follow/Track, etc.

Also, I'm not into panoramic photography, so I didn't test "pano" mode. (To be honest, I didn't even look for the panoramic mode option...)

Come on folks ... keep the reports and details coming about your experiences when trying the latest firmware in the P4P+; both RC and AC. The more responses we get the more accurate the assessment is in determining if this is truly a stable update ... or not ... and instead, just one "more of the same" that we have seen released from DJI over the last year or so for our + Model.
