Alcohol should do the trick without harming the shell.

Mineral Spirits (Klean-Strip 1 qt. Odorless Mineral Spirits-QKSP94005 - The Home Depot) is the best option. Test it first on a small area to make sure it doesn't damage the plastic, but it usually does not. Do not confuse with other types of paint thinners, which instead can be very aggressive on plastic.
Rubbing Alcohol is typically not a good option for glue residue, but works in some cases.

I suggest Goo Gone. Smells good, too.

I always use Goo Gone for this purpose too. It won't harm the shell.

Does smell good doesn't it . I use it and alcohol sometimes .
I just pick it up at Wal-Mart .

WD-40 works like a charm and it shines the shell too. It’s only fish oil.
