Starting motors

Can you start the motors in beginner mode? I've noticed when I take it out of beginner mode you can start the motors moving the sticks down and inwards
but not in beginner mode. This normal?

When in beginner mode, you cannot start the motors unless your Phantom has a GPS signal. Other than that, you should be able to start the motors.
