New user phantom dj1. Upon landing bounces several times. Left lever joystick pushed back to throttle cut off but kept on going. Tried to shut off transmitter unsuccessful then was able to grab hold of copter and copter turned off after 6 min. Any idea? Given as a present. Second hand purchase

When close to the ground and it will not shut down it's not wise to turn off the controller as the phantom took that command as a failsafe or RTH and trying to return home.Do you have copy of the user's manual? If not here's a link to it.

Please take the time to read it just may help you from losing it or damaging it.

Thanks for the tip. Before I shut off the transmitter I tried several times to cut back and hold the throttle joystick towards me for several seconds and it wouldn't shut off.

Have you updated the software on both the bird and the controller? Also you need to make sure that the batteries are fully charged. While this may not be your problem it is something to check.

you can also push the two sticks to the bottom corner of the controller that will cut the motors instantly

Do a full calibration on bird and controller .
Make sure you download the proper assistant (P1)
