replacing just the camera?

my drone ended up at the bottom of a creek in about 6ft of water. it was of course ruined.
i purchased a second hand phantom 3 on ebay which did not include the gimbal/camera.
i attached the gimbal/camera from the drone that sank. the gimbal works fine. the camera does not work.
so i figured i'd replace the camera. but i can not find just the camera. only gimbal/camera combos.
can the camera alone be replaced?
where could i find just the camera?
also.....anyone know why there are so gimbal/cameras for sale for well over $100 but they all say "broken/needs repair"?
there is really a market for broken gimbal/cameras? that seems odd. why would anyone pay for a broken gimbal/camera?

There are some of us crazy people that enjoy repairing those “broken “ gimbal/camera assembly’s. The problem is when we have to pay $100-$150 for a broken one. By the time we get it repaired, we have more money into it for the parts to repair it. Hence, the gimbal/camera assembly is now selling for $200-$300. It’s a vicious cycle and pure evil.
