I can do the basic stuff on PP and now want to add some cool effects to my videos. Where's the best place to look for easy step by step examples an old duffer like me can follow?

If you look in help menu there are Adobe tutorial videos and that's a good place to get free information.
Lynda.com is a paid service that provides great instruction on all kinds of technical matter including Premiere.

I am also using the premiere cc 2014 and use YouTube for instructional videos. Most are pretty straight forward.
