Update an IMU? An update isn’t specifically for the IMU. Are you referring to calibrating the IMU? That’s a different issue.
Some history on what you have and the reasoning behind what you’re attempting to do would help.

When I went to transfer a video that I had made, a message popped up and said `update IMU`. I know I have never seen this b4! That is why I am confused. I followed instructions on my smart phone it guiede me to the were it said Update IMU. So I did and it just stuck to 1%.Wtf is going on. I have had this drone since it came out. 8 yrs.

Having the many P4 series drones over more years than I care to admit, I have never seen a message that you describe. There are settings in the app that will show the condition of both the IMU and the compass. Have you checked the information in those sections?
Are you using DJI Assistant 2 for Phantoms? Any crashes or hard landings? Does the gimbal work okay?
You could have a bad IMU board. That’s the board just under the gimbal.
I have seen this lots of times but a crash was usually involved. If you update or refresh the firmware and it won’t complete it is usually the IMU. If you are just trying to recalibrate the IMU it does not complete it is usually the IMU.

Yes relating to your answer. On the very top of my screen there was a warning fashing in red that read.. Must update UMI. ?? that is were I followed the instructions. I recalibrated everything the message went away for about a minute and popped back up.
