Potentially serious problem with Phantom 3 and iPad

I have an iPad Mini 2 that has had problems on and off with video issues such as choppy screens, pixelation, black screens, etc. I do quite a bit of shooting during the afternoons as well as the evenings, but the afternoons are where I have the problems. I tried today with the case off to see if it was an overheating issue and it didn't help at all, so I decided to use my iPhone 6 and it worked like a champ. Just wish my eyesight wasn't getting worse with age. I have an iPad 4 that I'm going to try next. Just wish the mini didn't have these problems because I love the size.

The mini I had overheated fast. I could only get 10 minutes of flight time before the lag kicked in. I have an iPad Air 2 now, works great.

I have not updated to IOS 9 yet. I have an appointment to get a new screen (long story) but I have the feeling that I will walk out with an iPad Mini 4 if they have one in stock.
