Phantom 4 Pro Sharpness settings

I see many people read a bit too much into the setting names and numbers, leading to incorrect assumptions on how the settings affect the image and what the optimal settings are.

1. "Sharpness" on DJI Phantoms and Mavics is actually "Sharpness + Noise reduction". It changes both digital sharpening and noise reduction at the same time.
2. The numbers are just the name of the presets. Sharpness set at 0 doesn't mean there is no digital sharpening applied, it can be anything really. Just think of 0 as "Preset number 4", where you can change it to Preset 1-7. You need to look at the image and see what each setting does. Just to make it even more unintuitive it's different between DJI models.

The Mavic Pro has a very aggressive noise reduction that destroys shadow details which is impossible to recover in post, and needs to be carefully balanced. There have been many misunderstandings on that topic.
My advice is to take any tips on optimal settings with a grain of salt. Some are correct but some are misleading. Then there is the whole issue of different subjective tastes on saturation, clarity etc.

Hear what others have to say but do some complementary testing with your own footage and LOOK at it and how it changes with different settings.
