Sounds like either the FW on the RC or the AC have not downloaded. As @ianzone suggested check for any of FW updates as per his post.
I am assuming that you downloaded the FW fully to your device as you stated that you followed the prompts to update.
If you have a computer, download DJI Assistant2. Plug the AC into your computer via the USB cable that came with package, open up the Assistant2 software and turn on the drone. You should see on the computer screen the FW status of the drone and whether there is an update available or not. If there is, download it. Turn the drone off.
Then go back to the steps I posted in #9 and you should be able to update the RC. Turn everything off and then on again and see where you are.
