Mine tipped over once on start up but caused no issue. Just an error message about motor obstruction. Restart and all was good. I didn't realize there was such an issue with landing. I always manually land (on a landing pad I built) and I've never had an issue. The auto landing is far more harsh then when I land it myself.

I've been put off by hand catching as it seems like more risk. Nobody catches a Bell 525 when it comes to the deck. I'd rather land on my own, like the big boys.

Sorry to hear about your misfortune OP. Be sure to land on solid flat level surfaces.
 
Let it hover then go retrieve it.. E.g. Hand catch it.
