my P3 advanced flipped upside down on launch. I could not shut the motors down.
Any tips on how to shutdown under these conditions?

This happens most often when someone launches tentatively as opposed to just gunning it until it's at least a couple of meters high.

You didn't say what steps you took to try to stop the motors, but in most of the similar posts it was a CSC that failed to stop the motors when the AC was inverted on the ground.
In those cases, a left stick down for 3 seconds would normally stop the motors. A couple of people didn't think to try that and pulled the battery, but that's a bit scary with the props going.

In normal conditions, left stick down for 3 seconds is to me the only way that anyone should shut down their motors.

I tried the left stick for what I thought had to be more than 3 seconds but it may have been a timewarp. I ended up pulling the battery and cutting my self pretty good

Stay calm and pull down on the left stick (for what feels like an eternity)
