hi I'm trying to find out how to recalibrate my 4 compass even tho the app does not call for it after the set up calibration .is there a way to do this. every time I tap the compass setting to go into to calibrate it does nothing.the only time the prompt came up after tapping is when prompted by app on the original set up .is it just not an option and not necessary unless the app asks you or is there another way to manually go in and calibrate .Thx.

Read the manual on how to do it, then just do it whenever you wish. It is not necessary to wait for a prompt to tell you what to do.

You can also calibrate the compass from the following section of DJI GO:

They changed the app a while ago and moved the calibration to the sensors screen. I am sure the manual hasn't kept up (not sure but they don't seem to update it often).
I think this was DJI's attempt to reduce people's urge to calibrate the compass every flight.

Why do you want to calibrate the compass?
It's completely unnecessary and unnecessary compass calibrating is risking giving your compass a bad calibration.
Just leave it alone.

ok but my manual says to do it every time you fly in a new location . so now new firmware has made it unnecessary?sounds like kong was on track.

I did read somewhere if you like change states or great distance you calibrate,i used to do every flight but some cotton on that can damage compass,i only do if prompted or me bird acts abnormal.:)

I have been flying about 600 miles east and west without re-calibrating and the craft has been all good so far.

It's nothing to do with firmware, it was never necessary but the old manuals were poorly worded.
The principle to follow is leave your compass alone.

That's another compass myth.
The manual says nothing of calibrating at any distance from anywhere.
And if you think your app prompts you to recalibrate, resist the urge and just move your Phantom away from whatever magnetic influence it has detected.

Your going to watch this picture at least for 30 secs to see how north magnetic fields are structured. Depending where you travel you might belong to different stripe causing little north magnetic difference.
