Noob Question

Before I ask, please keep in mind the following things
I am a noob
I have limited knowledge in the field of RC crafts
I own a phantom 1

I've been looking into gimballs and such as I would like to use my phantom for photography as many do. I have googled and googled and youtubed to figure out how the heck they control the gimball but to no avail I haven't found anything. Is it a separate control? Do you have to mod your own or buy a different control that includes a stick for the gimball? I'm so lost. Please speak in laymens terms if possible so it's not all Chinese to me as I would say.

the Phantom Tx has a secret control in the back that you can order lever for.
which can then be used to tilt the gimbal.

most gimbals have built in controllers to keep the GoPro steady automatically.
