I recently purchased a second hand P4Pv2. The controller has a built in screen which I thought I’d like, but I don’t. The phone is old and locked.

So I got a new controller on eBay, the GL300L and am awaiting that in the mail.

Next step is to purchase a tablet. Frankly, i wasn’t ready for the required additional purchases. But I’d like advice on whether to get a iPad (maybe a mini) or Android tablet.

But anyway, I gather that DJI Go 4 only works on iOS. Is this true? Also, I read elsewhere on a different forum that folks were having trouble connecting their P4Pv2 to new iOS because of the type of usb port. Please advise.

Litchi sounds like a reasonable alternative. I gather it can be run on both android and iOS.

There are other options too. Which is best? And what options are not available to me if I chose android over iOS or vice versa.

Seems like there are so many hurdles to figure out. Thanks in advance.

I should say I hope to use this for basic mapping missions. I want to preconfigure a mission to automatically follow flight lines and take pictures at specific intervals such that I can process the data to generate an orthophoto or DEM or point clouds.

No movie filming or cinematography anticipated. But maybe take some oblique images once in a while 😁

Greetings from Birmingham Alabama USA, welcome to the forum! We look forward to hearing from you!

I use the Tripltek tablet myself. I am able to use it with all my fleet (which are different brands)

Welcome to the Forum.

If you haven't already, check out msingers' site "Phantomhelp.com" for everything Phantom.

Just be sure to select the model drone you are researching from the top menu on the site.

To get an idea what tablet/device works well for your P4P,...go to 'Must Haves', then select 'Accessory--Tablets/Phones' . There you will find an extensive list of available and compatible options. Good luck.

I'll preface my advice by stating that I am NOT an Apple fan. But I have to say that after years of using iPads with my drones (specifically purchased FOR my drones), they have been rock-solid reliable.

I can tell you that it DOES work on iOS extremely well. Again, rock solid reliable.

I haven't had that problem with my legacy drones. I can't speak for the latest offerings.

No, it's not true.
The Go 4 app works equally well on either operating system.
Which is best?
If you are asking about Android vs iOS, the answer is .. whichever you are most comfortable with.
And what options are not available to me if I chose android over iOS or vice versa.
None at all.
For flying they work equally well.
In fact you have more freedom to do things with Android rather than Apple's buttoned down way of making you do things their way or not at all.
Seems like there are so many hurdles to figure out.
The only hurdle is to make sure you get a tablet with enough performance to run things properly.
Handicapping yourself with a cheap, underperforming tablet will cause disappointment.

You should look at DroneDeploy for what you intend to do.
It's a very good program to help plan the mission, fly the mission and acquire images on a precise grid with precise overlaps.
It runs very well on the P4 pro and their Android version is excellent.

btw the p4pro is also a very good drone for general aerial photography as well as photogrammetry.
