New pilot! Got some questions for the pros!

I don't know much about the Phantom2, but i do know the Phantom2 has some 'fpv' built-in that requires (i believe) use of a iphone/android? I hate that idea - i'd rather have a dedicated transmitter and receiver.

You're thinking of the Phantom 2 Vision, which has the DJI camera attached and a proprietary video downlink that requires an iphone or android device. The regular Phantom 2 has no camera from the factory, and you can use whatever FPV transmitter/receiver/monitor set you want (as long as they're compatible with each other).

Most common FPV transmitters do work on the voltage found on-board, regardless of which Phantom you get.

Here's some reference material on the iOSD: http://download.dji-innovations.com/dow ... .04_en.pdf. Simply put, it overlays telemetry data (batt level, altitude, heading, etc) on your FPV video feed.

You might also want to check out this page to be clear on the differences between the Phantom 1, Phantom 2 and Phantom 2 Vision: http://www.dji.com/products/

I did just think of one thing that the P1 lacks that you may need, which is the Canbus port required if you want to connect DJI's iOSD on-screen display with your FPV setup. but to add that port to the P1 you'll have to buy a PMU or solder the iOSD straight to the board (which is actually very easy to do).

Do you have a link detailing how to do that?

Original credit goes to sarawuth, but D3wey did a great blog post and video on it: http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/member.php?u=499128

I love the flight time of the Phantom 2, but the only thing I don't like is the batteries being proprietary and there's no light on it. I use the light all the time to tell battery level. I can see it at night from a few hundred feet away. How does a phantom 2 user know the battery is getting low?
