New P3S, can't get video from 4ft.. is it broken?

Sorry, newbie and here and I want to make sure I am not missing something before I return it.

All firmware and DJI app updated.
Tried recommended start order.
Tried restarting the drone multiple times.
Using iPhone SE (A9 chip), with cell data turned off, removed my Apple Watch
Moved the phone away from the controller, tried from all sides and watched the antenna video to be sure it is aimed correctly. Rebooted everything multiple times.

It flies fine, takes good pictures and video but I can't get the video to work, near, far, in the air, on the ground... Exactly three times it has worked for about 30 seconds. I even went to the middle of an empty field.. I also get the interference warning and no video.

Is this just how it is now with whatever wifi restrictions or do I have a bad bird? Any other ideas?

Sorry, yes I understand the different phone operating systems... Are some drones coded to one or the other or does DJI have a history of inoperability with Apple?

I tried three devices and no dice... so back it went. It was fun, but I am not rich enough to spend this kind of money for something that doesn't quite work. Thanks for help all!
