I flew this evening with my 2yo, and we did some downwind runs that were a lot of fun. After a spooking adventure last week where I climbed too high with too little battery left, I decided to stay ~200 meters high, and went a mile or so upwind. I use ATTI mode with centered sticks and camera facing straight down to determine winds aloft. Then fly 20% or 30% of my battery up wind, then turn 180 and full throttle it down wind, holding elevation steady, in ATTI mode. (Still not sure why GPS mode is so much slower). I hit 24 meters per second consistently, and I am guessing wind speed was in the 15-20 knot range (next time I will measure speed of downwind drift before applying throttle.) My math says 24 meters per second is pretty fast, as in ~54mph: 24 meters/sec = 86,400 meters/hr = 53.7 miles/hr.
Anyone else clocking downwind runs? FWIW, I was packing Zenmuse 2D, GP Hero3+, ImmersionRC 250mW transmitters, iOSD Mini, and most recently added the Garmin GTS 10.
Curious what top end others are seeing.
