I have a phantom 3 standard. It connects to the controller and flys, but claims weak signal, no gps signal. The camera was removed as i plan on using it for a fishing drone ( i have a 2nd drone for Pics). I have worked removing the distance limit and was successful before this but now the drone won't fly more than 100ft. I have tried to connect a different remote but it won't connect thru the app or s1 button. It hovers just find and is responsive. Return to home thru s1 lands the drone but where it is at. That won't work above the waves! It appears to be on the drone side but i am not sure. Beginner mode is off! Any Ideas?
Things I've tried:
1 reconnect remote
2 tried to connect a different remote i know works
3 re-downloaded app and tried different app
4 used 2 different phones
5 updated drone and remote thru usb card.

Gidday, and welcome to the forum! As far as I know, the problems you're experiencing are caused by the removed gimbal. No gimbal means no video, and no telemetry. Did it go fine before you removed the gimbal?
Cheers,
Daniel M

The gimbal was attached but not connected due to bad antenna wire and camera harness. It flew good after i removed the beginner mode. I have tried to update the firmware but still can't see the version.

If you remove the gimbal and camera from a
DJI Phantom 3 Standard, the DJI GO app will likely show a "Gimbal Error" or "Camera Not Detected" message, preventing live video feed and recording, because the Standard model's camera is integrated, and removing it disconnects essential communication, essentially leaving the drone without its core visual function, potentially leading to various system warnings and FLIGHT RESTRICTIONS.

What You'll See in the DJI GO App:
  • No Live Video Feed: The main screen where you'd see the camera view will likely be black or show a static error message.
  • Error Indicators: Expect prominent alerts like "Gimbal Error," "Camera Not Connected," or "Compass/IMU Error".
  • Disabled Camera Controls: Buttons for recording, taking photos, and adjusting gimbal tilt will be grayed out or non-functional.
Why This Happens:
  • Integrated System: The Phantom 3 Standard's camera and gimbal are a single, factory-installed unit; they aren't designed for user removal or replacement.
  • Loss of Communication: Removing them severs the electrical and data connections the drone needs to operate the camera and stabilize the gimbal, triggering system failures.
There are a few members here that have successfully adapted their drones to be used as fishing drones. Hopefully they will join the thread soon and offer their tips and experience on how it is done.

Oh, I just saw you took it off on a Phantom 3 STANDARD! No wonder why it's not working. P3 standards for some reason don't go without their gimbals well at all! (Tried it myself) Only P3 pros, and advanced work with doing that.

This sounds like a frustrating situation, but the symptoms you are describing are actually protective features built into the DJI firmware. Because you modified the drone (removed the camera) and previously tweaked the software parameters, a few things likely got crossed.
