Ok I know the 1 is ancient but I just want something to play with in the yard and learn on without spending a ton of money...ie less than $200

That being said, when I go look at this thing what should I be looking for and how do I check the batteries, drone, remote ect. Here are some photos to get you started, let the spears and advice begin.

Yup, what oconnb said ! Well you could, 1. Fire up remote control (might have to bring 4 AA batteries). 2. Install a batt., start the batt., make sure bird is linking to remote control, (should have green light under bird). Can start bird(take props off) and see if it takes commands by throttling up. Should go through startup cycle with sounds and lites. 3. Plug charger in and a batt, see if it starts charging. Batts for this bird are easy, any common lipo will do. 4. Check motor pods for cracks around screws . Be nice if owner takes it for a fly with you. Good luck.

I am planning on having him demo it. He says batteries are less than a year old so they will hopefully be good for a while. Any other tips out there, do I eed to get him to take it off his account or anything?

Also I have never seen a Phantom 1 with the silver decals, is this a red flag, no pun intended?

Flew great and was as clean as it looked. Super nice young man was selling to buy a 4! Worked out great for both of us, always nice to support an articulate, smart and polite high school student. Now time for me to get some practice.
