I managed to get a DJI Lightbridge System up and running on a Phantom 2 with the help of the posts on this sight. Thank You for the information. Now I have a couple of questions maybe someone can answer. First, of the Lightbridge firmwares available through the Lightbridge Assistant software which is the best to run? I have loaded what comes out of using Assistant 1.2. The second question is how can I avoid having to go through all that reflash nonsense of the Nand of the Base and Air Unit in the future? Yes, I know I can buy something new. I like old things because I'm old. Thank You in advance for any good suggestions.

You can minimize the need to flash the NAND by using the system as often as possible. Good luck
Thanks Mark. I was afraid someone would say that. HiHIHI. If I started it once a week for a few minutes or two is that enough or can the NAND go belly up at any time? I just fly this thing for fun. I installed the Lightbridge because I liked the concept of everything on one channel. My backup is to go back to the original which was a 5G video TX and the 2.4G control. Is there a best of class firmware to use from Lightbridge Assistant? I installed what comes out of Lightbridge Assistant 1.2 but I know there is another version if I use the 1.3 assistant. I've seen a few posts that when they upgraded the NAND went belly up. Everything works now but have not gone out and flown the bird. Don't want to kick the sleeping dog if I don't have too and do an upgrade to the next firmware. I remember doing upgrades from DJI for the Phantom Firmware when the Phantom first came out. I won't go there because it ain't pretty. Thanks for the suggestion.

Hi again. You can minimize the need to flash. You can't eliminate the need to flash. It can still go out on you.

Going "back to the original" - from your description, it sounds like you have a straight Phantom 2 and you had an aftermarket video system which you're describing as original? Because the straight Phantom 2 didn't have a camera or a video system, but you could get a gimbal for it and fly with a GoPro.

I don't know anything about Lightbridge Assistant, sorry.

And there are not many pilots who had installed Lightbridge on their P2. I can't remember anybody posting about it. Although I remember DJI was selling the system to hobbyists for installation on their hobby drones way back when. IIRC, this was before the P3 came out.

If everything works, the consensus is not to upgrade. I personally never upgrade anything without a really good reason.

Good luck!

HI Mark and thanks for the comment. Yes, I have a straight Phantom 2 that was retrofitted by the supplier with the DJI OSD and GoPro Camera. The vendor used a DJI 5G video TX and a gimbal DJI was using at the time. I'm a Private Pilot and I purchased the Phantom hoping that using FPV (First Person View) it would satisfy the flying bug. Rental Planes have become very expensive. Flying the Drone even under FPV is just not the same as being in the cockpit of an aircraft and with the FAA Rules in place you are kind of limited on just what is legal in the Drone Flying. I used to cringe when I saw the videos of people taking their Phantom up into and above the clouds. There are aircraft flying through those clouds traveling at a very high rate of speed. Anyway, I appreciate your comments and suggestions. I guess the next time I have to get into those systems and flash the NAND I will be adding some permanent connections that come out of the enclosures, so I don't have to do all that soldiering over and over again. Thank You.

You would be amazed at how many modules i have repaired and a large percentage are for people of the upper age group, like the chap from Derry who sent his for repair who is the ripe old age of 86, with that said though the Mavic Pro 1 is a great quad, which is cheap these days, and can be used with the DJI white goggles which give an absolutely amazing immersive experience with first person view which includes head tracking.

Adding wires is a good idea to save you stripping it down. the video below shows a method i use to repair the modules with no soldering, i havent seen an air unit but maybe there may be a similar way for one of those.

Thank you. Great idea. I had to flash my air unit also. If either module goes belly up and I have to reflash it I will be adding permanent wires and some sort of plug. It's too bad this happens but I've flown my Phantom 2 with the Lightbridge setup and I like it much better than the 5G video and 2.4G control I had previously.
