Just ordered a phantom 3 standard and I’m excited

Yep, that's a P2. Forget the P3S manual from post # 4.

I know P3's and P4's. Not familiar with P2's. Oh well..........🤷‍♂️
Sorry to bother you again, but upon further inspection it seems to be a phantom 3 not a 2

Welcome to the forum! That is a phantom 2 vision plus.

Can I use the drone inside so that I can practice before using it outside?
Don't even think of flying in your home.
Take it outside to a large, open area where there's nothing to run into.
Practice indoors isn't going to help you and risks damaging the drone and things in the house.
Your drone isn't going to have proper GPS reception within the house so it won't have the horizontal position holding ability that GPS gives.
Without position holding, it won't have "brakes" and be difficult to control, but will be easy to crash.

Your drone is much easier to fly than you imagine.
The trick is to not let this fool you into getting too adventurous too early.
Do your early flights in a large open area, well away from trees, buildings and obstacles.
Be afraid, very afraid of trees, buildings etc. They are involved in most incidents.
Read up on return to home procedures, practise using RTH and cancelling it so you understand how it works and how you can resume control in an RTH situation.

Sorry about that I meant when I ordered the drone from eBay, the seller put pics of the drone and it the drone light was on does the indicate that battery is fine?
If the seller advertised that as a Phantom 3, you should claim for item not as described.
Whatever you paid, it was too much.
The Phantom 2 series is so primitive that it's nothing to get excited about.

Well, the pic in post #9 shows a P2 remote controller. P2 remotes do not work on P3 drones.

Thats because the standard remote is the same design as the phantom 2 remote, the only difference is that the range extender is built into the controller on the p3s, it was only the pro the advanced the 4k ansd SE that had the bulky remote control

That is a phantom 2 vision plus as it has the extender on the remote,

Yep. The OP bought it off of Ebay where it was advertised as a P3 Standard. Not sure if he's gonna accept it or get a refund for 'item not as described'.

Good afternoon.
I've been a pilot since September 2018 (drone bought since June 2016:rolleyes:), and I was TERRIBLY afraid to make my first flight because of many stories that I read of people who damaged, fully destroyed or lost their bird in its maiden flight, or soon after. Most of these losses were due to pilot errors, while the minority were due to instrument/mechanical/battery etc. failures.
My philosophy to reduce these potentials was to fully understand a drone's flight controls (Remote Controller), and the software (DJI GO app) before I could make my first flight. I also watched several videos of the following tiltles:
  • DJI - Remote Controller Antenna Best Practices
  • DJI Drone Simulator
  • DJI Phantom - How to avoid crashes and fly aways TOP 13 HINTS
  • DJI Phantom - Zero to Airborne 1st time DJI Phantom Pilot Tutorial
  • DJI Phantom 3 - Controller Review in 4K UltraHD
  • DJI Phantom 3 - DJI Pilot App Setup
  • DJI Phantom 3 - First Flight and DJI Pilot App Overview HD
  • DJI Phantom 3 - Getting Started - Setup, Tips & Tricks

In addition to all of the above, I decided that I wanted to be a TRUE pilot before I could fly this semi-autonomous device (Phantom 3 4K) which has both lateral support (GPS) and vertical support (barometer, vision-positioning sensors [monocular camera and ultrasonic sensors]). I decided that I had to be able to fly a fully manual bird (NO LATERAL NOR VERTICAL SUPPORT) before I could launch my bird. My solution was to acquire a fully manual drone and practise with it indoors before I could make a Phantom flight outdoors. I got myself a 'UDI RC Discovery HD+ Upgrade (U818A)' which was the #3 rated amateur drone in the world at that time. My mission was to be able to maintain up to 2-minute flight within a standard sized bedroom without colliding with the ceiling, 4 walls, floor, nor any objects in the room. The first several flights ended in frustrating crashes within 3-10 seconds of take-off. With more and more practice, I got the hang of it and eventually mastered my pitches, rolls, yaws and throttles. My ultimate test was to do a flight through the entire house, by launching from the Livingroom, entering each room in sequence, going to the upper corners closest to the roof, turning around, then exiting the room without touching anything. It took me about 8 tries to get it almost perfect (touched the left vertical doorframe while exiting the last room before landing in the Livingroom, but decided that was about as good as it could get ) and only then, I certified myself as a true pilot of a manual drone.:D

The thing is, if your bird loses its instruments and sensors while flying (which can happen with any man-made device), you MUST be able to bring your bird back in manually, or else you can damage, fully destroy or lose it. I can say this with no uncertain terms, that most drone owners CANNOT fly any bird manually.

If you're interested in the video tutorials, send me your email address here or privately to [email protected], and I'll arrange a zipped download with them all. I will also share the MagicPower v5.3 which boosts your bird's distance/range.

OP,

I would attempt to get a refund for the faulty listing if this is indeed a Phantom 2.

You introduction to drones may be a sour experience using such a dated drone that you will have a nightmare finding "good" batteries for.

I would find a low cost Mavic 2 Pro and call it a day. You can still find DJI batteries for it and I have spotted quite a few of these for very low prices.
The Mavic 2 Pro camera is very good and is enough for anyone entering the hobby.

Whether you return this drone and get another, I'd let the community know where you're located and maybe an experienced pilot will volunteer to go out with you for your first flight, so you can avoid the pitfalls we've all experienced. I have done this for others. No matter how much you study the manuals, things can happen very quickly and it's nice to have somebody there that can take over and help avoid losing your drone.

Hey guys I know the phantom 3 is a little outdated but I got it online for a really cheap price and I’m quite excited to use it, I have got 2 question about it. Can
I use the drone inside so that I can practice before using it outside? Apparently this drone is a like mini leaf blower so things will be flying
And has anyone got any tips for the drone?
I would go to a grassy field just in case it crashes it won't be damaged much/ i wouldn't fly it inside the house/

There is no need for drone flyers to be able to fly manually, because they are never going to get into a situation where this would help anything.
