ITElite DBS Mod Not easy!!

Why doesn't anyone route the cables out through the old aerial holes? No need to drill the case then!
Surely with a 3d printer you could make some cable grips or grommets?

Man thats a great thought wish I had though it this morning then again the cables i had would not reach

I have the DBS mod antenna and love it. Easy to do-just take your time. I did buy the shorter cables and they fit good....BUT I noticed consistent signal loss. Signal is strong then completely cuts out.... Then comes back. Switched back to the original DBS issued and back to strong signal. I don't know.... I'll just stick with the original ones

You have a bad cable(s).

Typically this would be at the connector interface to the cable.

I just finished the install of my new DBS Mod and it was challenging to say the least. From start to finish I was a little under an hour. It was successful but lets say I may of lost weight as I was sweating through many stages. I can see now the reason why many are damaging the ribbon cable is not just from getting it out or getting it back in the slot but the hard part is getting it back in position through the slot back to the board it fits into . I will admit I was shocked to see the size of the ribbon cable and I can see now that strictly using your fingers(I wear latex gloves) will not work with these ribbon cable as they are too small. As I said in other posts I am a computer support specialist and have been working on computers for almost 20 years and installing or replacing a ribbon cable is far from a new event for me. This is a challenging install and the amount of things that can go wrong are many. My suggestion to anyone who is not 100% into this sort of thing is send your remote to DBS or I think you will likely be out the cost of a new remote. In hindsight I would've sent mine to them even though all appears to be working fine.

Yes I have had reports of people making mistakes of installs on DBS Mods and FPVLR that cost them down time without a radio and had to buy a new one because of a lack of parts..... Here is a install video that will walk you through if you buy FPVLR or DBS mods you have the options to have DBS Mods or FPVLR or Vegas 800 to do your installs you will have a piece of mind that the install is correct and not damaged.
But If you like many that have followed this video of the install you will succeed ....

HOPE IT HELPS

I agree , in my opinion well worth the extra 100 bucks to have big chuck dbs do my install. It looks much cleaner than what I would've been able to do. Plus I'm not good with electronics . I don't trust myself with a 500 dollar controller.

Nice Job............3D Printer is Next.........So many great uses............What kind are you using ?? any tips for someone new to 3D Printing ?
Yes, lots of uses for Phantoms and hobbies in general. I did quite a bit if research and would just make sure to get something with dual extruders & a heated bed. From there, you have a number of options. Quality has improved and prices have dropped so you can get a pretty good printer in the $800-$1200 range. Some of the China made imports available on Amazon & Ebay are well made. There are a lot of new filaments being produced... from wood, to metal based as well as nylon, pla, abs and flexible types. Lots of options and info on the web now which help make getting started easy for those just getting into 3d printing.

Also recommend upgrading the outside cable to a thicker rg402 coaxial cables . You can find them on eBay for just a few bucks.

No way these are having any appreciable impact. The connections will have the most loss. If the cables were ran directly from the RC board and soldered directly to the antenna then that would be beneficial.

The trick to reattaching the ribbon cable to the con board, is the actually unscrew the con board from the controller BEFORE trying to put the ribbon cable back on. If I would have done this the first time around I would not have damaged the ribbon cable.

When you did your test what were the results between the two different types of cables. What was the range for each one ?

I would love to see a picture of your long range setup. Which setup are you using? Thanks

sooo DBS over fpvlr? that is my question and from what I am reading they are both good but I do like the looks of the DBS and I think the 100 for the install is cheap compared to a new remote if I mess mine up

BUT...........on the Bright side...........Wicked nice range now..........For me, I't about Tree interference.........not going 5 miles away.............I am very happy with the purchase and it's performance
Same here, tree interference. What is the range difference?

I have not been able to give it a good test as the weather here is not permitting it. I live in a valley with a large hill on the back of my home and lots of trees. When I attempted to fly over the hill with the stock setup at about 500 metres I was losing signal. Today I went a little over 1000 metres with the DBS setup. There is also a large radio tower on that same hill so I think its pointless really to expect flying there. I am hoping to fly in a little bit to check for distance but in a diff direction

Yeah that was my thought too. Plus it only took 6 days total from the day I shipped to the day I got it back. Very quick turn around time . That was the only thing I was worried about but less than a week I definitely can't complain about that and return shipping is included !!

Wow 6 days I think this is my choice then... I was thinking about waiting and getting goggles first but may just get the mod done and am still checking goggles so many things to do!!

I damaged the white bar that the ribbon cable slides through while unlocking the ribbon cable. This was a monumental mistake, while using 2 mini screw drivers to unlock the ribbon cable, one slipped and broke the white bar. I sent a picture to DBS and all they said was "Wow, big mistake". I was lucky to find another brand new RC on Ebay for $200. I think I'll send this one in for the $100 install.
