Imovie help!

I recently got a ipad mini2 and am trying to use imovie to edit my p4 footage. My files are in .mov format and cant seem to import them
What do i need to convert them to and what conversion program do u suggest.

imovie accepts mov no problem.
But what resolution are they in ? 4k, 1080p etc.

Not sure the iPad handles 4k

Also depends if is the retina display version or not.

4K mov wont play on my ipad, but I can use the 4K files in iMovie no problem.
