Ground station next week ?

Attn: Independent App Developers-

Writing a USEFUL ground station app for PV+ would probably be a lucrative venture!

Just sayin'... :geek:

the only problem is that DJI does not have an open API.
You would have to reverse engineer the vision app to try and get any idea of what they are doing. and the problem with doing that is, new firmware could = broken app and you must start over and reverse engineer whatever new things they are doing.

Would be nice if they offered an open API for 3rd parties to make their own apps (like parrot does for the A.R. Drone)

But the the evolutionary and "locked" direction of the Phantom is (or should be) becoming clear.

Hypothetical scenario ......

You are busy working away at building a 'very' lucrative business making and selling flying widgets, and there is some concern by different regulatory agents of the governments in the countries that you sell into, that they 'might' be dangerous (even if just slightly so) and you are pressed to answer the question of "if anything happens how would we (the government) know who did it"?
After all ...... that's our main job as government ... knowing just who the foo-ak done it!!

So first you say the "please don't ban my product" prayer ...... and promptly make it so that anybody that upgrades, or even uses the flying widget's PC Butler program (allowing them to change the widget's parameters) ......... has to register their flying widget .... along with their name, email/ISP, and the electronic serial number of all the major components (that might separate in a crash).

Then you make an upgrade so that it limits were the widget can fly.
Then you make it so when upgraded to latest firmware ...... you can't go back.
Then you make an upgrade so that the flying widget records everything, everywhere, and the time that the pilot does it.
Then (sensing that some folks might not want to update to all that) you entice them to embrace the the latest "Spy in Your Eye In The Sky" flight data recorder "back Box" firmware by also issuing the long overdue and promised "does nothing" feature called Ground Control (to Major Tom)" and show those governments that your device requires registration to use, and limits (or can limit) where, when, and how it can be flown ....... and then if a person smashes into a building in Minneapolis, you know who done it, when they done it and how they done it, or even what could be a double edged sword for the pilot and/or the manufacturer ..... 'why' they/it done it.
Then make is all closed API .......

P.S. In view of how some people fly, and how reliable/unreliable (depending on what camp you sleep in) that some of theses things are ........ I'd totally hate the above scenario, but would be so totally for it all ...... hypothetically speaking. ;)
