GoPro 3+ Microphone Mute

Anyone using a USB plug stub to turn off the camera top microphone? A piece of tape over the microphone doesn't cut it. Some noise is muted, but can still hear other sounds such as the cooling fan of the AVL58 TX.

Why not go into GoPro settings and mute audio?

Where in there can that be done? The only audio mute I saw was to mute the camera beeps.
