I am trying to understand this function.
So the drone is reacting to my android devices GPS to follow me. The android device is not part of the transmitter, just FPV and telemetry. So how is my GPS info getting to the drone?
Just answered my own question, the telemetry is up and down link.

It's plugged into the transmitter.

This is assuming you have an Advanced or Pro... The Standard does not plug in but uses WiFi
