I was flying my P3A. After using DJI Go to make sure everything was ok, I started Map Pilot with a 30 acre mission to take about 300 photos. (I have done this successfully 30+ times.) The phantom rose to 250 feet, flew about 1100 ft to the start of the mission. It turned to start the run and just fell out of the sky. I was holding the controller steady on the hood of the truck pointed at the phantom.I did not have time or the reactions to change to F to P on the controller. To be honest, I was trying to check the monitor and my spotter watched it falling. The camera, gimbal, and landing struts were destroyed. I found the drone using the monitor. It had not taken any photos.
The only possible reason I could guess was that it was very hot (over 100 degrees.) I had kept the drone and batteries in an airconditioned truck until launching. We had driven 2 hours to the site, and then set GCP. I guess next time I would return when it was cooler.
Any thoughts?
