External battery for Phantom 4 Controller?

I know others have thought of this but I can't find a good reference in the P4 forum. So, I'll try: Has anyone solved a weak controller battery by just plugging in an external battery to the controller as if it were charging while running? If the controller won't let you do this, can you run the battery connection from the inside through a port in the controller case to the outside? Just velcro the battery to the back or bottom of the controller, possibly?

Any suggestions for a DIY controller battery fix, I'd be more than appreciative to hear!
