Hi everyone and apologies if my first post is a cry for help.

I bought my P3P second hand in December 2017. The seller is a genuine chap and hardly used the craft. I took it home and set it up trying out the simulator mode and the like. After this i stuck it in back the in the box with a view to using it once better weather arrived. A couple days ago i took it out the case and thats when it all kicked off. The first thing that happened was that i was asked to finish my DJI registration by providing a mainland China telephone number (a bit difficult as i am in Glasgow Scotland). After this i managed to get to the simulator screen and now everytime i try and take off i get this (see screenshot). Now i have been on the DJI forum and eventually received the secret (dont ask) firmware file. However i have either not installed the update correctly or the firmware fix does not fix it for me.
So in summary it worked in December it does not work now and i dont believe i have done anything wrong.

Any advice or guidance would be grealy appreciated.

Some other background info; I have already spoken with DJI UK call centre (not in the UK of course so language/accent issues but they were as much good as a trap door in a canoe.

Next stop i called the DJI recommended repair guys DJI repair doctors who had absolutely no clue as to what i was talking about. The assumed i had crashed it and wanted me to send to them to repair.

I now appear to be the proud owner of a £500 paper weight. Please can someone help me.

Thanks in advance Dario

A total shot in the dark but the only reason I can think of as to why you might be asked to provide a Chinese phone number is that you might have accidentally enabled/or it just enabled itself?/ this setting. "Enable AMAP (for China Mainland)" As to the ESC status error message that you are now getting, sorry, I just don't know - it could be connected, but probably not.... But if you've been using the simulator a lot there is a chance that something has overheated but it's usually the gimbal. See here:- Standard - Flight simulator and you can find more info with a search (magnifying glass, top right)

Apologies if these ideas are way off beam...

First if the AC was a 2nd Hand one - you should not have to register it - as first owner from new is that and it basically stays with the AC ..

Registration for any subsequent owner is basically GO ... and for linking to DJI cloud etc.

I bought my P3P 2nd hand and it just worked ... because previous owner had registered fully. He cannot cancel it - nor can you ... But once I started flying it and MY GO was recognised as with that P3P ... all sorted itself and I have my flights on that P3P listing. If you see what I mean !!

Welcome to the forum!

Question - Was it demonstrated to you by the seller to be working well?

What @Oso implied sounds very likely to me. Especially if you did not updated your firmware before the error appeared.

If you want to fix the issue by yourself, start by reading this:
ESC Error

Been there done that in that i have downloaded and installed secret firmware but still getting ESC error.

No it was not. However i had no reason to doubt the seller. Also when i say register i meant a DJI go account not the drone. I did try the drone at home on simulator mode and all appeared fine.

I appear to be going round in circles with this problem. I think it best now that i get it a repair shop. I am located in Glasgow Scotland. Can anyone recommend someone local to me? I have done an internet search and although not local RC Geeks look a good shout. Any thoughts?

Thanks

Dario

I am a little confused here ...

You buy a P3 without having it demo'd ? OK ... you trust the seller.

You try registering GO but get asked to use a Mainland China number ? Strange.

You fire it all up and try Simulator and get ESC error ?

OK - I am really confused.

1. Your money - but given that a few Phantoms do have problems - not a wise thing to do buying without seeing it flown unless its absolutely new.
Did the previous owner Register the P3 ? If so then all you need is to register your GO app.

2. Can you take us through the steps you use when starting up and try to register GO ? Please ALL steps and sequence ... so we can see if any strange quirks ...

3. Generally the Phantom if GO is not registered / active will impose restrictions and not action with the GO. The GO needs to be registered to make the Phantom answer commands. If you are getting ESC warnings - then I am really confused if you say GO didn't register.
Registration is so simple - a matter of creating an account and logging in .. that's it.

Like I suggest ....

Write down each step you do when trying to register GO and create account.
Then list each step when powering up and trying to get to flight capability.

Put them here so we can see exactly what you are doing.

There must be a simple answer to this.

Lets see about fixing registration first ... then see what happens ... if not then : DJI Repair centre I believe for you is same as for me ... Holland. But you may find a 3rd Party repair facility in UK ... try asking in one of the UK based Drone Forums ...

Hi Nigel
I truely believe that the problem stems from a firmware issue. If you go to the DJI forum you will see several threads about this.

Just a quick recap.

I dont know if the original owner registered the drone from new.

When i bought the drone in December i installed the DJI app and set up an account. At the same time i tested the drone in simulator mode only and i worked fine.

Two days ago i take the drone out its case and all this nonsense started. First it was enter the phone number to complete registration of your DJI account and then its the ESC error that you see on my screenshot. DJI have a firmware update that is not listed on their official web page but can be provide (if you ask often enough) by one of the administrators on the forum. For most people that have been affected by the ESC error this clears the problem but unfortunately not for me. I think the best option now is to get the drone into a repair shop.

Hi Dario ... I'm still confused. I understand what you write - but cannot understand why a Chinese number if you have already created account etc. (You did say a Chinese number asked for originally).

The ESC correction FW is well known and I have been one of those asking DJI why they force people to search it out and request.

I tend to agree that a Repair shop - or an experienced Phantom user needs to check out see what's going on.

Good luck ...

You're confused ! I understand its really weird but that is what happened re the phone number. Again if you check with the DJI forum you will see a couple of threads about the same thing. Thanks again for trying to help :-D

I think i have read somewhere that the DJI go app request for a mainland China phone number is related in some way at to where the drone believes it is (if that makes sense). Again i am a little unsure because i have been trailing so many threads but i think the theory is that that there are restriction placed on your ability to fly the drone in China without suppling a phone number. Now i have checked the map setting and both are switched off. When i tried the drone again in simulator mode a moment ago the home point was set as somewhere in China (see screenshot). I did take the drone outside so that it could connect to GPS and so set the correct home point. However when i tried the simulator mode i got the same ESC warning and i was unable to start the motors.

What happens when you try to power up and 'fly' outside ? I'm not saying take-off .... but power up and do all just short of actually taking off ?

I've seen many of cases where updating the firmware to 1.10 or 1.11 caused an ESC error. Rolling back the firmware to an earlier version like 1.09 has seemed to resolve it in many cases. Have you thought about trying to rollback the firmware? This thread is pretty detailed on rollback, but basically create a debug file and copy the fw to the sd card and let it do its thing. I recommend stepping back one by one and not jumping. I'd aim for 1.09 fw. Downgrading firmware on P3P from 1.10.9 to 1.7.6

Sorry but having Bricked my P3P following exactly to the letter the roll back ... it is definitely something I will never ever think about trying again .... 300 Euros bill teaches me a lot !

Thanks for the advice but i do not feel confident in attempting this although the thought has crossed my mind (i asked the question on the DJI forum and was informed that after v 1.09 or similar it was not possible to carry out a roll back). I have a repair shop in mind (they specialise in P3 firmware resolutions) and i will give a call on Monday.

Once again i would like to offer sincere thanks to you guys for trying to help.

Still no further forward with this. I am still convinced it is a software issue rather than a fault with the drone. Had online chat with DJI support today who suggested deleting the DJI Go app. Also advised to search for all other DJI cache files and remove. Then to reinstall app log in and switch off China tab. Did this but still does not work. See screenshots of various
