The best investment one could make is buy a $70 Nano and learn to fly with that. Once you get that down the Phantom is a cake walk.

Hahah... lively little beasts aren't they? I have a brushless converted one - Now they ARE quick

The Brushless MCPX and the 130X are good fun as well but all totally different flying experience to the Phantom.
In the very early days when I first got the Phantom I found my thumbs over compensating and wanting to do things they didn't need to do - lol. I then realised and said to myself "Hang on a minute... I don't actually have to 'fly' this thing.... it flies itself"

But you're right, if you become proficient at the Nano (or any collective pitch heli really) than you will be able to fly a Phantom blindfolded.
