In terms of "must be able to handle 4k" I think you should be more focused on your computer and its processing power. Having a robust editing software is great, but you'll definitely want a computer that can keep pace!

I've been using Da Vinci Resolve (the free version) and it's very good, can handle 4K (although you won't want to edit in that format unless you possess some monster machines and multiple graphic cards)
