Backup your photos!

We had a customer that had a backup solution that auto backups up files as they are modified or created, a Sonicwall CDP device.. we told them it was a bad idea...

One of the PC got infected with a crypto virus malware and since all the backup files had been modified the backup system promptly backed them up! It was impossible to find out which ones where infected!..

If you have decrypted files encrypted by cryptowall malware you need to get in touch with some of the antivirus providers and other large corporations because they have not been able to unlock the files once infected. You should be able to earn some big money.
True. But, the files were not encrypted. There are some copycats out there who are just throwing up screens that prompt people to enter their credit card info and threaten to encrypt the files. I've never run into the actual CryptoLocker virus.

FYI, this thread is saying CryptoLocker is dead:

you might want to also invest in storage outside of your house. A fire could wipe everything out.
Yes! A backup is only good if you're able to get to it.

I've tried a lot of different online backup services. Some really bog down your computer. Others make it tough to restore backed up files. CrashPlan has been working well for me:

I am not familiar with the cryptolocker malware, I am not sure why that is pertinent. The one that got my data was cryptowall and it most certainly did encrypt my photo files it was not a façade and they are not recoverable without paying ransom (which I would never do). But I am glad you had some success with faux malware issues.
